hi everyone hope everyone is happy having an awesome event my name is brett im the grant program manager here and today were ill do a little overview of the grant program but the main portion of this is going to be a conversation with some of our awesome grant recipients so the grant program in a nutshell is we deploy resources right we want to support the technology as well as the developer community we have so we look to support the tech the tools the infrastructure improving uh and expanding the chain link network along with education for a developer community and ongoing resources to to help developers along the developer journey right so today we have a few panelists that represent the different ways the grant program supports the growth and development of the chain-link community its also really interesting because we have teams at different stages of working with us we have you know one team thats received multiple grants we have a team thats been a long time active and supportive member of our community longer than ive been here um and uh and one team uh thats recently received a grant and were kind of welcoming into the into the family so to speak so with that being said uh i will introduce the panelists as a brief overview we have margaret and mori from protofire a team thats been working with us through our integration grounds we have roger from link river whose researching and publishing solutions to critical to the node operator community and tracy from the style whos essentially building an open source portal sharing all the important resources available to the broader chainlink community so with that being said id love to have uh each panelist kind of introduce themselves and their organizations and we can go from there so uh margaret and felipe from protofire if youd like to kick us off yeah happy to start thank you brad for that introduction so my name is margaret im an operations leader at protofire and we are very thankful to the chain link team for having this great opportunity to talk more about us and especially about work that we are doing around the chain-link ecosystem so a few highlights about us so we are a team of more than 40 engineers and since 2016 weve been contributed to contributing to some great projects in the blockchain space uh including of course chain link gnosis its kyber network um synthetics make a dao unislop opin aragon and a few more which we cant disclose unfortunately we are continuously improving protofire to be a machine that attracts builds and retains engineering teams for protocols and dows um and the way we we function is that uh the team picks a dow or project to work on then we start with the first small engagement and then we move up move on to building a dedicated team and um i would say that our goal and unique specialty is to help player 1 layer 2 cross chain and oracle networks and some selected defy protocols to bootstrap demand side to accelerate developer adoption and with that in mind we shaped apps protocol modules develop smart contracts uh work also on developer tooling and integrations and besides uh what i would like to share is as part of our hosting services we are also running the second biggest indexer node in the graph network as far as the amount of delegations uh with the total value of grt staked at around 11 million dollars and we have also developed more than 30 open source subgraphs for ethereum projects uh were also participating as relayers and validators on xdi avalanche meter and helping projects to further decentralize their infrastructures and were also providing the main rpc endpoint for the file code network which is one of the core network endpoints so this is this is a little bit about us um and yeah thank you brad hope this gives a good idea about who we are what we do very good overview it sounds like you are involved in a lot of exciting things um trying to be yeah definitely uh theres a lot of places to be here um all right cool so uh roger you wanna you wanna go next sure hey everybody im roger uh co-founder of link grover we are a community driven chaining node service provider meaning that we are operating chain-link nodes on various blockchains side chains and layer 2 solutions test nets and maintenance we are besides this participating in the decentralized price feeds and heavily focusing on the research and documentation all around changing node operations and related sources and yeah rob and i robs the other co-founder recently joined the developer expert program launched by chaining labs which focuses on supporting the chaining developer community so we want to educate as many people as possible about decentralized oracle networks hybrid smart contracts external adapters and um everything related to it and so yeah thats a brief overview of um link grower and im happy to be here thanks for having us and yeah we were recently awarded the standing community grant which were really really happy grateful and uh on the boat and so yeah happy to join the conversation here with you guys awesome its great to have you roger uh great to see you again um all right and last but not least uh tracy you want to give an overview of this stop sure hi my name is tracy i am the ceo of a company called this.labs we are a consultancy of about 50 developers we are 100 remote worldwide but a lot of us are based in the us i myself am a rxjs core team member and a google developer expert as well as a microsoft mvp same with my co-founder who has previously google and the angular core team so you know just kind of best in breed consultancy and were so excited to get this grant and be working with chain link on some really exciting things uh we work with some amazing uh other folks and you know were kind of dipping our toes in and starting to spread the education about uh the amazing ecosystem so i love seeing you know i was i was part of when the javascript ecosystem was developing and i love seeing this ecosystem starting to develop and be a part of that so we get to work with some amazing customers like twilio google roblox wikimedia t-mobile cloud and airy playstation etc etc and this is just going to be a really fun project and our entire team is really excited about it awesome awesome so i think that was uh everyone did great introductions and i think maybe wed like to dive into some of the the chain-link specific work um as it relates to to some of the grants uh weve handed out so i guess we can start with uh with uh margaret murray from prudefire maybe talking a little bit about the projects and and working with chainlink yeah so what weve done basically weve focused more of most of our work in in actually making integrations into other blockchains uh so the the first integration that we did for for the blockchain for the chaining stack in into other blockchains was saw the xdi integration we actually helped set up price feeds on there and from there we started going into other blockchains so we we helped the avalanche integration we helped with blossom and with sado those those those were the first ones and we are expecting to get a lot more uh also we actually worked on pro um helping developer tuning uh theres uh theres the test net link faucet that we worked on on a very short notice uh but we are really happy with the with the way it turned out um its basically a faucet that provides link tokens to developers all over the ecosystem we support over like over six different test nets from different providers so on fuji on on power networks and kovan and the idea is to help developers all over the ecosystem wherever they might be whatever the technology they might be they might prefer be able to use chain link the chaining infrastructure to power their applications as most of what we of what we did and we have received a couple of grants uh recently mostly related to scalability so scaling chain link outside of outside of ethereum one uh so doing some qa on integrations on other evm networks uh helping channeling expand to other networks themselves which are not really even compliant like uh for example polka dot based or maybe solana one day and yeah helping with bridges and analyzing stuff theres a lot of things to do we are excited for the future yeah and i think you bring up a good point and this is something that i bring up in conversations uh with uh potential grant recipients or new grant recipients i think um theres a couple points there but one i think is uh we really want to get to know the people right that were working with and i think the goal of a lot of these grants and a lot of the projects is to get comfortable to the point where there could be another grant or another project right so its not necessarily that we want these to just be you know were issuing a grant and you fix this and then its theyd see you in a year or two its i think uh what protofires really proved over time is that you know once youre youre in our community and youre working with us and youre doing a really good job then we want to work more with you right um i think thats interesting from a different perspective uh with uh with roger and link river you guys are super active in our community uh you know when you send in an application for a grant everyone knew who you were and they were super excited to see that youre proposing new stuff to to work to work on and work with us on so uh i think thats a good segue to to roger if you want to talk a little bit more about your project but then also you know how we got there right yeah definitely its um interesting first to catch up on protofire i want to send out a shout out because your work has been really beneficial for for us as node operators as well the token forces the new integrations on several networks um yeah were really grateful for the work and we really uh value it a lot so keep keep it up and yeah um now to us to uh to our project its um its called nodeblocks.link and um maybe first how how we got there um so yeah as i already said were constantly researching the newest advances about node operations and weve been um busy spinning up our tested nodes and various chaining nodes we ran into all possible one and error logs and sometimes you feel a bit left alone so in general we thought about okay we should launch a website or provide some additional documentation besides the official chain link docs which are awesome um because they are spinning up chaining modes is really limitless you can always improve your setup um there are several uh setups and deployments for different use cases and we thought about okay lets launch a website um with different guides for different node setups which was a pretty pretty um big scope and then we started conversations with you and we had some really really nice chats with you and other team members and somehow we ended up saying wouldnt it be great to focus on the essentials and um to initially launch a website which focuses on um displaying and categorizing all relevant or the most relevant and frequently occurring logs the chaining node produces and now were talking about warn and error logs because thats mostly what youre interested in when youre trying to troubleshoot and debug and so yeah we came up with the idea to launch nodelogs.link and it will focus on displaying categorizing and explaining the origins of of the node logs that are produced and yeah it will also provide debugging solutions so that um the whole troubleshooting process for aspiring and established node operators um can be facilitated and will of course constantly update it and this will be the initial first version of the website and what you mentioned earlier brett the great thing is that um its not that were building one product and then were done were not working as a freelancer for the chaining ecosystem but we are were aiming at staying a long-term member of this ecosystem and enjoying those virtual virtual cycles were already seeing here protofire um launching um critical infrastructure for node operators for changing services in general and um theyve been receiving several grants and yeah we we hope to do the same and um build up a long-term relationship with chaining ecosystem where anyway um really um yeah closely in contact with and so its been a great great process were really grateful and were enjoying every conversation and its always really inspiring and uh great to work with like-minded and open-minded people awesome awesome and its great to hear that you guys are uh doing the new kind of developer expert program excited to see kind of all the different developer relations and education stuff that we can kind of uh grow out over over the course the next year um i think your application journey was pretty interesting in that the final project wasnt necessarily what the application was i think it was a very collaborative and iterative process right so we you know hopped on the phone we talked about the application i kind of was like hey to the rest of the team members is this interesting and then we just kind of hopped on the phone with frank whos uh i believe hes the new operations community manager right and we just speak big shout outs to frank yeah franks the man um definitely yeah if you ever get a chance to be with frank definitely definitely take it hes a really cool guy um but i think thats really important that like we wanted to have the conversation right like you know how do we get to where this is something that we can you know this is what were gonna build and this is how we get there and this is how its going to be beneficial to the community and we we lived in stephen fluid whos our head of the developer relations hes like you know this is how i think you know based on my past experiences how we should we should go and build something um so for those people who are watching that are saying you know hey id love a grant i dont know what it is it would be for uh apply and talk about your experience the problems that youre looking to solve you know your expertise and how youd be able to solve them and if theres something if theres me to the bowl and well figure something out thats thats beneficial to everyone yeah i can totally agree just go for it dont hesitate even if you might think oh um yeah if youre hesitating or anything just go for it send you send your application um you will get an answer that is really communicative i can i can confirm this and the whole training team brings in a lot of expertise i think there are some of the most talented people in the whole blockchain space so go for it if you have the chance take it and enrich the whole ecosystem its just awesome awesome i think also this is a perfect segue to to tracy and this dot and your project because much like the process uh of rogers application right to getting to a project the project that were going to be working on together through the grant is going to be a living breathing project thats collaborative between us and again stephen and developer relations uh so id love to learn maybe more about the projects and then you know maybe we can you guys are certainly experts in this building developer communities educating developers so maybe you can give us some some insights into your experience there as well sure yeah again i think this is really awesome and we really love being a part of this because you know one of the reasons why i even got into anything development is because i love building communities and our entire team feels the same way right like we have uh one of our pillars at our company is making the developer world a better place and i i love you know what im hearing from you know what rogers doing because you know the project that were actually going to be working on with this grant is creating this open source website thats going to host you know all the important ecosystem resources in any developer community you look at uh education and hey where do i get started where do i go find this is the biggest problem and there can never be enough education or information out there to provide people so thats going to be really amazing and i i just love the idea of again creating something and you know so glad chain link is supporting this to uh make developing for this ecosystem a lot easier for everybody and i think the amazing part of this as well is hopefully you know were still kind of trying to figure out uh you know how much of the website content is curated how much is uh curated by the community etc etc but it is going to be a really great way for those who are producing content uh to have a place for people to find it so i think generally its just gonna really uplift that system uh you know in all the communities that ive been a part of in building this again is always you know its always the same thing right you look at angular you look at react you look at all these things sure theres documentation sure theres this place to go but uh if if we could create like the master place to go i mean thats always the vision and thats always you know the i think the the goal and the hope of of any any community to be able to have something like that awesome and then again tracy you have a lot of experience in terms of uh community building education training this is something thats uh coming from a startup venture background uh moving to kind of uh early stage early early stage open source startup and then uh joining chain link labs a few months ago is im learning more and more about kind of the importance of documentation but also like the strategic value of that education right so its its different to have a github than it is to have you know a developer expert program or training courses or actual real world examples where its not just lines of code and a readme where its walking you through how you actually build a d5 app using price feeds right um so theres i think theres a lot of like nuances in there i was wondering if maybe uh you can talk a little bit in terms of uh you know why is it important for us to focus on education training documentation and how that relates to the community and then i think that would also segue uh really well into maybe roger commenting on that too because hes been a part of that how do we figure it out journey in terms of learning how to fix broken things and stuff like that too right absolutely well ill give you a few examples one example is uh react documentation and uh in javascript you know in react they you know they went from uh class components to hooks and uh unfortunately the react box and were actually helping the team right now uh fix the react docs or update the react documentation but right now if you go to the react documentation it tells you to use class components it doesnt really talk about hooks as as first and thats actually not the case uh in reality most of people who are learning react right now are uh you know should be learning hooks and or are already learning how so its kind of confusing right and i think anything thats confusing that makes it difficult for developers to get started is you know just not healthy because people give up ill give you a great example i was trying to figure out um you know a new way to deploy my website and i was exploring all the new different options thinking hey i should try something new right and i went to a bunch of the different sites and i was exploring network and netlify was so funny because i literally went through probably three steps and i had already deployed my site like i didnt even know i was deploying my site its just that everything was so well set up that all of a sudden it was just done for me and that was really powerful because obviously i just used notify because it was already done so i think as you know as as we build more education within communities it just makes it so much easier for people to say hey i can do this too hey i can develop my first smart contract look how easy it was and it really encourages people to start taking the next step into becoming more part of the community yeah i think thats awesome roger id be curious to hear maybe some of your comments or experiences around our community and the education process and stuff like that yeah so i mean um obviously chaining developer community and community in general is awesome its unique and yeah its sharing community and economy and uh when we first came up with our initial questions while spinning up training notes of course the go to point is the discord server the official discord server and the node operator channel which is great super helpful there are many many great people around who will always support you always respond to your questions but we also recognize okay um ironically also in a call with you guys as steven said well you have an example of an error log right here um copy paste it on google and see if something comes up and there was no search result and this is something we really want to change we want to make education accessible we want to make all the knowledge and the experiences um accessible through web browsers of course i mean we have stack overflow which is great but we want to create the go to point for chaining node operators because yeah seeing the the need for uh in a near future for um hundreds and thousands of independently operating um dance and um chaining type smart contracts we will need more and more uh chaining node operators to contribute to those stands and so we really want to lower the um the barrier of entry um so that as many people as possible can just say okay i want to spin up chaining notes that sounds awesome i know its a lot of stuff to learn but um yeah i can easily look up the missing pieces or um facilitate troubleshooting by having great resources and yeah so i think its way easier to um to look at look it up on on a search engine or go to the discord channel node operators discord channel and discord ask the question um get linked to an existing website and then maybe even make a proposal hey look guys maybe theres something missing uh how can we edit and yeah i think its the most important thing to spread the words to um just motivate as many people as possible to learn we recently saw the training developer boot camp which was a huge success um with thousands of new people learning how to write smart contracts and we want to achieve the same for note operators we want to encourage everybody to spin up chaining notes although it might be a lot of stuff initially to learn but its not impossible everybody can do it and yeah were happy to just contribute to to this whole process um and to make this whole unique ecosystem grow awesome awesome uh we dont have a ton of time left but um uh mori any final thoughts around maybe kind of uh working with us i know like one of the things i hear about you guys is how awesome your documentation is right and i think whats interesting in terms of the work that you do is theres no theres known unknowns for every project that you do right so a lot of the process that you go through in terms of these this integration work youre educating us right youre poking holes in the beast and seeing what fails and doesnt work so that we can fix it and integrate uh yeah thats thats the basic idea of i mean if its it what what we are trying to trying to to figure out is always how do how do we provide access to the access to the technology and maybe some uh some documentation to you so that you know hey lets lets see this blockchain has this particular uh problem or this particular thing that you might be needing to be aware of and also i mean with with every integration we always produce kind of a document which uh educates both us and some other developers who might not really be into changing or into what we do but serves as sort of um sort of a summary of whats of what they can expect when they integrate with that particular blockchain so i think thats a really valuable tool and what i think personally that we really need to to work on as a community is on documentation and making everything accessible that in that we i agree with with roger and tracy uh bringing more people in is a matter of giving them the tools and giving them the access to information that they need to start uh building their their dreams and building their what they uh what they can think of i i think thats a perfect point and i think to to anyone uh to watch to anyone watching um i think a lot of people think that they have to approach me in discord or on the apply for a grant because they have the solution already and theyre proposing that solution but i think its really interesting if you just you know hey theres this issue or this issue and documentation or im trying to learn about this feature and i cant find an answer anywhere that i want to know about because that we that we want to fix and that we want to find the right teams to fix that um so i think its its really important to note that um if you have ideas around grants to to reach out as well um unfortunately i believe our time is up so i just wanted to
